Tree People
A series of works for the You Are Here group exhibition ‘The museum project’.
Legends of the “Tree People” were widespread in 2015. In the early 2000s as resources became scarce due to the growing population and peak oil was critical, food and energy was a dying commodity. Scientists genetically modified a parasitic life form, one that would inhabit the bodies of humans and would eventually change the entire physiology of the human animal into tree/plant forms, creatures that can photosynthesise. Since food and oil was no longer an issue and to survive all was needed was sunlight, the first wave of human test subjects eventually just sat down, planted their roots and never spoke or moved again.
