Late last year Bec Selleck and myself were awarded the Emerging Artist's Support Scheme (EASS) upon our graduation at the ANU school of Art.
We have been invited to exhibit our works at 'The Front, Gallery and Cafe' in Canberra. Our exhibition 'Tracing Steps' will be opening on the 12 - 24th of August. With opening night being on the 12th at 6pm.
Come and see!!
'Tracing steps through memory, perception and encountered places, artists Janet Ranken and Rebecca Selleck showcase their latest sculptural and photographic works in a one-off combined installation at the Front Gallery and Café.
At the heart of Janet’s work is a desire to locate herself in the living landscape and somehow capture the embodied experience, memory and essence of those places. Walking, sitting, bundling, dying, and binding; these gestures become liminal experiences exploring meditative and embodied states expressed through sculptural and textile pieces.
Rebecca’s sculptural and photographic works exist in a strange place between object and agent, merging irreconcilable perceptions of domesticate animals within single forms. Drawing from childhood memories, her large-scale sculptures, and diminutive photography, invite you to both engage and disengage.
Winners of the 2014 Emerging Artist Support Scheme Front Gallery & Café Exhibition Award, the two artists present for your viewing pleasure a surreal look at two worlds colliding.
Showing from the 12th to the 24rd of August, with the official opening on Wednesday the 12th at 6pm.'
